Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the ability to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. You already have some strengths that you’ve used before, that for whatever reason isn’t working right now. Perhaps this problem feels overwhelming and is making it difficult to access your past strengths. In our work together, we will help you identify what those strengths are and how to implement them again in what is happening now.
The difference is between someone who can do something, and someone who has the training and experience to do that same thing professionally. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, therapy is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, if you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.
Medication alone cannot solve all issues because it only treats the symptoms. Our work together is designed to explore the root of the issue, dig deep into your behavior, and teach strategies that can help you accomplish your personal and/or relational goals.
Medication can be effective and is sometimes needed in conjunction with therapy.
Because each person has different issues and goals for therapy, therapy will be different depending on the individual. We tailor our therapeutic approaches to meet your specific needs.
Unfortunately, this is not really possible to say in a general FAQs page. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time therapy can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek therapy in the first place.
We are so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication is crucial to your success. After all, we only see each other for a session a week. It’s the work you do outside of our sessions that will really help you see your personal growth and development.
If you are concerned about your relationship, and you would both like to work with us, we would initially work with both of you together. After this work, if one of you would like to continue in individual sessions, we could work with only one of you. It is not helpful to move from individual into couple’s work with the same therapist because of potential trust issues.

Great therapy sessions with Ms. Katherine! My husband and I are attending marriage counseling, and I must say, I am learning some things about myself that were a detriment to our marriage. Ms. Katherine is helping my husband and me to work on our communication. So far, so good.

Alexia has been an excellent resource for me as I navigate life after the sudden loss of my mother. She helps me talk through my struggles and gives me small, attainable tasks to help me work through my grief. She is happy, encouraging, and a great listener. I always look forward to our appointments!

I’m *S.W*, and I began therapy with Alexia a little over a month ago. She has created a safe environment during all of our sessions in which I feel comfortable sharing my feelings, thoughts, etc. She is always attentive, which is crucial for establishing a supportive space. It is difficult for me to open up to new people, but she has been incredibly understanding of that, and I have never felt uncomfortable or pressured. I appreciate how she allows me to express myself however I choose. Although it’s minor, I also enjoyed her asking my pronouns. I look forward to continuing our sessions!
Happy Client
I am so very pleased with Ally Hoffman and her work with my child. We looked and spoke to other therapists before coming to Cinco Ranch Counseling. We are working through complex issues but in a positive, enjoyable way. Our sessions usually have homework that helps us move toward our progressing goals. Ally guides my child to look at things differently and challenges my child to define their feelings more in-depth. Ally is kind and fun- this helps my child want to interact and removes anxiety about going to therapy! I appreciate the virtual therapy option because this allows me to still care for my other family members. I have recommended Ally to other mothers, and I will continue to recommend Ally Hoffman and Cinco Ranch Counseling to anyone needing help.

Carey is professional and amazing! She has been incredibly supportive throughout my journey.

Our 14 y.o. has been seeing Ms. Carey for five months. She quite enjoyed her sessions and was responsible for completing homework assigned to her. Being homeschooled and lacking a social environment, she had Ms. Carey as a good mentor, guiding her and providing professional advice and support. I am not aware of what exactly went on during the sessions, as I was just her driver, but I can see a much calmer and transformed teen. She needed to talk to someone outside the household and Carey was that person to be there for her. With thanks and respect from a grateful parent!
